give time for adjudication and be awarded by about 31 October, in
time for planning of research in the following year.
Program Background and Objective
SASLHA is exploring new opportunities to support research into
communication disorders in the South African context that will
advance the scientific and evidence based practice to address the
practice challenges in our professions. SASLHA is pleased to
announce the launching of a new research funding programme. The
programme will allow academics, scientists and practitioners in
South Africa to apply annually for funds in support of research and
capacity-building activities. Areas of research in which SASLHA has
strong interests include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Translated standardised tests
• Research advancing practice with Black, African first language
speakers
• Communication disorder service delivery to rural communities
• The professions role in Education
• The professions role in Health
When writing their proposals, applicants should consider and
motivate how their research will contribute to SASLHA’s and South
Africa’s development objectives. Pending the availability of funds
and the receipt of meritorious proposals, the funding will be
awarded to projects related to the SASLHA areas of interest
specified above. Examples of the types of activities that may be
funded include education and training; technology dissemination;
application and adaptation of new technologies; support for
students, postdoctoral associates, and researchers; international
travel; communications; supplies for research and international
workshops.
