Dear Member

Please be reminded that:

Health professionals who are registered in two professions from two Professional Boards are required to obtain 60 CEUs per profession with the 10 CEUs for ethics, human rights and medical law (per 24 month period) being credited to both professions.

Health professionals registered in more than one category within the same Professional Board should accrue 60 CEUs per profession with the 10 CEUs for ethics, human rights and medical law per 24 month period applicable to both professions.

120 ceu’s per two year cycle for dually registered members and 60 for single registrations per two year cycle.

The audit period will always be for two years. Please ensure you continuously maintain your CPD requirements on a monthly basis in order to maintain the level of ceu's required by the HPCSA.

"The cornerstone of any profession is the ongoing pursuit of knowledge and the development of the accompanying clinical skills that are necessary for optimal client care. CPD refers to the education and training that is directly related to the speech, language and hearing professions as they are practiced beyond entry into clinical practice. It encompasses one or more of the areas within the scope of practice of the professions as these are practiced within institutions or communities, including the management thereof. CPD is a means of ensuring that professional services to clients are of a high standard being relevant, appropriate and up to date. It offers professionals opportunities to move from their present level of practice to a higher level through planned professional growth. CPD therefore refers to any activity where an individual acquires knowledge and skills that are beyond the entry level requirement for newly graduated practitioners." (HPCSA - Professional Board for Speech, Language & Hearing Professions - CPD Guideline - December 2002)

CPD is a prerequisite for annual re-registration and entitlement to practice a profession and was officially put in place on 1 April 2003
